“Grief is a tidal wave that overtakes you, smashes down upon you with unimaginable force, sweeps you up into its darkness where you tumble and crash against unidentifiable surfaces only to be thrown out on an unknown beach bruised and reshaped – Stephanie Ericsson”

Grief and Loss

Grief is a universal condition rooted in the process of human attachment and will touch us all in some part of our life. Grief comes about by losing something of value.

Loss can be in the form of a death of a loved one including a pet, the end of a relationship, moving geographically, declining health or losing part of ones self, a skill or an ability and loss of a job.

Child Development and Effective Parenting

Learning to communicate with children is the foundation of effective parenting along with developing and maintaining an open, trusting child/parent relationship.

How can I help?

I can help parents with some of the common challenges of parenting including aggressive behaviour, childhood worries & anxiety and fostering the development of self-esteem.

Relationship Breakdowns

When there are problems in a relationship it can be very distressing causing feelings of anger, guilt, sadness, grief, isolation and low self-esteem. A relationship breakdown is painful as you not only risk the loss of a relationship, but also your identity, shared dreams and your relationships with extended family and friends. Sometimes the fear of the unknown future can be worse than an unhappy relationship.

How can I help?

I can help you by assisting you to gain greater insight, clarity and understanding of yourself and the issues that affected your relationship as well as helping you acknowledge the part that you may have played in the relationship breakdown. I can offer you a non-judgmental and understanding environment where you can gain inner strength and confidence to cope regardless of whatever the outcome might be.

Depression and Anxiety

Anxiety and depression can affect anybody at any age including children. When a child has extra challenges like type 1 diabetes they and their parents are more prone to suffering anxiety and depression through burnout. A lot of children feel angry, alone and tired of constantly having to manage their condition. Caring for a child with T1D can also be an overwhelming experience and ongoing stress and worry can increase their risk of depression and anxiety quite significantly.

How can I help?

I can help by providing an understanding and safe environment where the parents can talk about how they are feeling and the child can express their feelings through talk, play or drawings. From there we can explore ways to work through and cope with the anxiety and fears that are consuming them. In doing this I can help them regain a sense of control and confidence in their everyday life.
